Born in Berlin, 1949. Still sizzling today.

1949 · Berlin

A resourceful German housewife swaps spirits with British soldiers for ketchup and curry powder. Currywurst is born, and Germany never looks back.

Saarbrücken

Our founder Pia is born in Saarbrücken and grows up on currywurst and authentic German street food.

1997 · UK

Pia moves to the UK, bringing a love of proper German food with her.

2005 · Birmingham

Pia makes Birmingham home.

2019 · The Currywurst

With the kids settled in school, years of catering and events experience, and sausage-making skills learned from a butcher in Germany, Pia launches The Currywurst: Birmingham's original home of authentic German currywurst.

Meet the
founder

Born in Saarbrücken and raised on currywurst, Pia brings real German know-how, butcher-taught sausage skills and years of big-event experience to every service, from festival fields to stadium kitchens. The Currywurst is run by family, friends and people with a passion for sizzling up and serving the best German street food.
